About The Ayrshire Link
Active travel is when a person is undertaking a journey by walking, wheeling or cycling. It is the most reliable, efficient, and healthy way to travel short distances for everyday journeys and has a broad range of benefits for individuals and the wider community.
The Ayrshire Link is an aspirational network of safe and accessible active travel routes across South and East Ayrshire, spanning from Girvan to Lugton. Once completed, this network will deliver high-quality infrastructure, connecting communities, and be a key component of the Active Travel Strategy in South and East Ayrshire.
Led by Ayrshire Roads Alliance, a public sector partnership between South and East Ayrshire Councils, there are currently 17 different active travel routes at different stages of development, with some already built. These routes will form the vast majority of the network, linking with existing ones, with the aim of encouraging walking, wheeling and cycling in the region.
